Game Description

This year’s game, Recycle Rush, challenges robots to stack large game pieces and get a pool noodle into the larger game piece. The game pieces consist of storage bins, known as the totes; and large cylinder recycling bins, known as the containers.

Two alliances composed of three different robots compete against each other during this two and a half minute game. The first part of the match is the Autonomous Period. This is a pre-programmed 15 second time where the team members are not allowed to touch any controls. In this time, the robots goal is to stack the yellow totes and green containers, alliances can earn up to 32 points at this time. After the 15 seconds are up, drivers remotely control robots in the Teleoperated Period.

Following the Autonomous Period is the Teleoperated period.Drivers attempt to stack up to six totes, with a container on top and a pool noodle in the container. Other grey totes are taken from the selected Alliance Station and the Landfill. This stack can be worth up to 40 points.

One of the main aspects of this game is Coopertition, “founded on the concept and a philosophy that teams can and should help and cooperate with each other even as they compete.”
